On the card
A crowned man sits on a stone bench with a pentacle clutched against his chest with both arms. Another coin balances on top of his crown, and two more are pinned beneath his feet. Behind him lies a city, but he sits apart from it. Every coin is accounted for; none is in use. His posture is the picture of a man who cannot move without losing something.
Upright
General
You are protecting what you have, and there is wisdom in that up to a point. The Four of Pentacles describes saving, boundaries, financial caution and the desire for stability after a period of risk. The question it asks is whether the grip has become tighter than the situation requires.
Love & relationships
A relationship valued for the security it provides, or possessiveness that mistakes control for commitment. Holding on too tightly leaves no room for the other person to move.
Career & money
Careful budgeting, savings goals met, or a conservative approach to investment. A job kept for safety rather than satisfaction is also indicated; that may be the right choice for now.
Reversed
General
The grip loosens, by choice or otherwise. Reversed, the Four of Pentacles can show generosity and a healthy release of control, or it can show money slipping through your fingers through carelessness and over-spending. Look at which direction the coins are moving and whether you chose it.
Love & relationships
Opening up after a period of guardedness, or the collapse of a relationship held together only by fear of loss. Trust requires risk.
Career & money
Spending freely after saving too long, a financial loss that forces a rethink, or letting go of a role you clung to for safety. Reassess what security actually requires.
Advice
Hold what is worth holding and let the rest circulate. Security that isolates you is not secure.
