The sudden collapse of what was built on a false foundation. The Tower breaks so that the truth can be seen.
On the card
A tall tower on a rocky crag is struck by a bolt of lightning that knocks its golden crown clean off. Flames burst from the windows and two figures fall headlong toward the ground, one crowned and one not. Twenty-two flames in the shape of the Hebrew letter yod hang in the dark sky. The structure was built too high on too narrow a base, and a single flash undoes it.
Upright
General
Something you relied on is about to fall apart, quickly and without your consent. The Tower brings sudden revelation, crisis or loss that exposes what was unstable all along. It is painful, and it is also honest; the ground underneath was never solid.
Love & relationships
A shock to a relationship: a revelation, a betrayal, or an abrupt ending. Illusions about a partner or about the relationship itself are destroyed, and what is real can then be assessed.
Career & money
Job loss, business failure, or the collapse of a plan with a hidden flaw. Financial upheaval is likely; protect the essentials and do not rebuild the same structure in the same place.
Reversed
General
The collapse is being avoided, delayed or experienced internally rather than externally. Reversed, the Tower can mean a disaster narrowly averted or a crisis you saw coming and defused, but it also describes clinging to a failing structure out of fear and refusing a truth that would set you free. The lightning may still strike; it is only waiting.
Love & relationships
Staying in a relationship that has already failed rather than face the upheaval of leaving. Alternatively, a crisis weathered and survived together.
Career & money
A narrowly avoided failure, or a slow collapse that everyone is pretending not to see. Address the structural weakness now rather than later.
Advice
Let what is false fall. Rebuild on what survives, because whatever survives the Tower was real.
