On the card
A pope-like figure in red robes sits enthroned between two grey pillars, wearing a triple crown and raising his right hand in blessing with two fingers pointed up and two down. There is value in doing this the established way. The Hierophant favours mentors, formal learning, institutions and rituals that connect you to something larger than yourself. Commitment to a tradition, group or set of principles brings belonging.
Love & relationships
Conventional milestones such as engagement, marriage or meeting the family, and relationships built on shared values. A couple may seek counselling or a blessing of some kind.
Career & money
Working within a large organisation, formal credentials and respect for hierarchy pay off now. Financial advice from an established professional is worth taking.
Reversed
General
The rules no longer fit and you know it. Reversed, the Hierophant marks a break from dogma, a challenge to authority, or the discovery that a tradition was holding you back rather than holding you up. It can also warn of blind conformity, of doing what is expected because nobody has asked why.
Love & relationships
A relationship that breaks convention, or pressure to conform to expectations that are not yours. Unconventional arrangements work when both partners define the terms.
Career & money
Chafing against corporate culture, or an outdated method that needs replacing. Freelance or independent paths look more appealing than the ladder.

Learn the tradition well enough to know which parts to keep. A belief that cannot survive a question was never really yours.
